ABC Wednesday

B is for bottle and ship in a bottle.
Bottles we use every day.
B steht für bottle - Flasche und ship in a bottle - Flaschenschiff.
Manchmal findet man eine besondere Flasche oder etwas
Besonders in der Flasche, eine Nachricht oder ein Schiff.
Sometimes you can find a special bottle or something
special in bottle, may be a message or a ship.
These bottles you can find in the
Bottle-Ship Museum Ærøskøbing,Ærø,Denmark

This is my oldest bottle, may be from 1700,
found in Netherland.
Meine älteste Flasche, vielleicht 1700, gefunden in Holland.

The one with the paper ship I liked the most, although I can appreciate the work that has gone into the other ones. And it doesn't surprise me of course that the absolutely beautiful very old bottle comes from the Netherlands ;-)

I always wondered how they got those ships into the bottles. I have been told that the masts are laid down when they put it in and that the masts are raised afterwards aided by thin threads through the opening.

I have one that I inherited from my mother.

It is amazing to think about all the hours it takes to build one of these. I was especially fond of the one with the paper ship.

Nice topic. I've often wondered how the first ship ended up in a bottle.
